Below the Landscape

by Kathleen McKee

Cover design by Robin Ludwig Design Inc.

I was otherwise engaged when I received Below the Landscape so my wife, who happened to be between books, snatched this one up. She enjoyed getting to know the characters and sharing in the minutia of their everyday lives.

Below the Landscape is a tapestry of vignettes of the deep anguish only the loss of a child can bring; the confusion and hurt only a lost love can inflict upon the heart; the fear and anxiety only the threat of harm to a loved one by an unpredictable assailant can cause; woven together by love and family. All of this is set on a background of local political intrigue, buried treasure and art forgery.

The author’s tenacious protagonist, Sue, wife of Police Chief, Alan Jaworski has a mind for puzzles and puts all the pieces in place to put us all in the picture.

Kathleen McKee creates realistic characters and a well drawn community easily visualized by the reader. Her writing is clear and captures her characters’ thoughts and emotions including Sophie’s, Sue Jaworski’s dog.
