Author, Rodney Strong’s first book in the Silvermoon Retirement Village cosy mystery series is a thoroughly entertaining tale with just the right amount of suspense, tension and wit. Poker Chips and Poison is reminiscent of the 1990s British Sitcom, Waiting for God, created by Michael Aitkens and infused with a cosy mystery.

I won this book for my participation in a Cosy Mystery Village Author Takeover.

The protagonist, 97 year old Alice Atkinson, has certain unique skills that come in handy in the unravelling of mysteries. It seems she retired from a curious profession through which she acquired her exotic skill set.

Alice is aided and abetted by a Silvermoon Retirement Village staff member, Vanessa Carson, and together they set out to solve the mystery of Poker Chips and Poison and bring a devious murder to justice.

Strong creates cogent and quirky characters with distinctive voices and a scenario that will keep you reading and smiling.

I am someone that can’t tolerate crooked pictures and found the number of proofreading miscues; although not the worst I’ve seen, bothersome. Strong could benefit from a Second Set of Eyes.

Looking for an utterly engaging and droll yarn look no further than Rodney Strong’s recently released Silvermoon Retirement Village Book 3: Knitting Needles and Knives today and while you’re at it meet the eccentric characters by picking up your copy of Poker Chips and Poison!
